The Participant of the Automated Trading Championship 2007 from Kyrgyzstan Aleksey Kirienko is the leader of The Championship already for the second week. The development of his Expert Advisor for the contest took quite a long time. "The secret here is that we should use traditional and famous matters in accordance with our own needs, making alterations that can solve our task – in such a case they will be very useful".

Hello, Alexey. Your start is excellent; the result is astonishing for just a second week of the Championship. Is it luck or precise calculations?
I think both. Though, it was rather calculations since it took much time to develop and prepare thoroughly the Expert Advisor. As a result, the start was quite a good one!
Is programming your main occupation?
No, not the main one. But I have a good experience in this sphere – earlier I was developing software for banks. Now my work is connected with the management of IT-projects.
Well, and how does this experience help you in trading?
MQL appeared to be quite a convenient and flexible tool for the automated trading, because the constant lack of spare time does not permit to trade in a classical way.
It means you trust trading only to Expert Advisors?
It can’t be said unambiguously that in trading I use only Expert Advisors. The automated, i.e. absolutely independent operation of an Expert Advisor (except a qualitative code and the performance of the strategy in general) depends also on the trading algorithm and methods of a certain Expert Advisor. Some Expert Advisors require a more frequent “help” – this mainly concerns short-term strategies that from time to time require the adjustment of parameters. Accordingly, longer-term strategies may trade longer without additional help. I use some Expert Advisor for routine tasks, while the decision making is up to me. But your Championship vividly shows that a fully automated trading has its future.
Please tell us about the principle, on which orders are opened.
The strategy is quite a universal one. It may be adjusted both for a medium-term trading and for a short-term trading. Personally I prefer to depend less on the volatility and use settings for the medium-term trading. I try not to use in my system a lot of indicators – the large number of them hinders in viewing the chart itself and, consequently, entry and exit points on it. The given Expert Advisor doesn’t contain too complicated indicators; they can be found in MetaTrader terminal.
The secret here is that we should use traditional and famous matters in accordance with our own needs, making alterations that can solve our task – in such a case they will be very useful.
Can you please describe the general algorithm of placing stop-orders?
The signal system of the Expert Advisor is quite complicated. I think describing it would be anticipatory now. Though I may say, StopLoss and TakeProfit levels are dynamic. They are not strictly bound to a precise level; still they work, as we can see it.
Many traders consider, that using a fixed lot size helps to achieve though not a superprofit, but a stable operation. What is your opinion about this?
I think it is a wrong approach. Or to be more precise, it is a lower level decision. An Expert Advisor must make profit grow and cut losses equally stably and accurately.
Almost all your positions are profitable. What was the maximal loss during testing?
The maximal loss was 1858.54 US dollars.
And what about the risk management in your Expert Advisor? Do you find your EA very risky?
The EA itself is not very risky. As I have already said, its development took quite a long time. For the Championship risks are higher, than they could be for a real trading. But what can be done – we need to risk for getting maximal profit. Of course we cannot fully eliminate risks in trading, but there are mechanisms for their minimization in the Expert Advisor.
Would you please tell us more about such mechanisms?
These are the famous StopLoss and TakeProfit corresponding to the current volatility and price movement. But I wouldn’t like to expose all the details so far.
You write, that it would be better to make once a month improvements, amendments in an operating Expert Advisor. What improvements would you make in this Expert Advisor?
To be more precise, once in two months. I would optimize it in time. Probably I would work a little on its dynamic StopLoss. I suppose, unavoidable losses can be minimized. I think its TakeProfits are all right for the present.
Anyway, sky is the limit – we should always move forward. Because no matter how good an EA is, we can always find ways of improving its operation.
In comments to the profile of one of Participants you wrote that if you received an advantageous offer to sell this EA, you would think about it. Did you receive such proposals?
Yes, I am receiving such proposals, but I try not to hurry with this.
Thank you Alexey for interview.
