Hello Drew,

Congratulations on your success in the competition.  I've been looking at the performance of all the leading contestants in the hope that I might learn something.

I've got to say that I'm a bit confused by the comment that you would have done better if you had not capped the lot size when the account balance hit $40k-$50k.  When I looked at the report month by month, it seemed to me that October was the profitable month and November and December were just break-even months.

I can't see how money management aggression alone would have turned them into profitable months.  Surely they would have needed to have been profitable first for the money management to maximise the gains.

Or am I missing something?

Thanks for the comment. This year I would have performed better if the lot size was not reduced as my balance increased, but you just never know. This behavior was by design. My target was to reach a balance of 40 – 50k before retarding the lot size. My thought was that at this balance I would have a fairly decent shot at making it into the money, but you know what they say about using historic data to predict future results, so, maybe next year.

Drew,

I like your EA trading strategy better than the most if not all of the EA's that are performing better. What happened to your EA to cause it to start trading small lot sizes mid-way through the contest? I think you would have won the contest if it had continued performing as it did in the beginning because you have such a high success rate in closing profitable trades, and doing so with 50 PIP wins. It's nice to see someone from the USA competing so well.

I’m not really sure what would happen if trades were unlimited but because my current parameter set was the output of an optimization run using the 3 trade limitation, I’m sure it would fail miserably without it due to over trading. Since I view the EA success thus far as more luck based than anything I would not expect this EA to be able to hang around near the top of this competition for very long. This is exactly the same EA that I ran last year but with a much different set of parameters. Last year started off well for the first week or so but quickly turned before I had built up a decent balance. Really my thinking is that any EA can be successful for some period of time, if I am lucky in the beginning then I will collect some profits and quickly scale back trade size to hopefully lock in some of this luck and hopefully be around at the end.

Thank in advance to send me one email with your email. JPP

Hey, luck or not your EA quadrupled the account and then some in the first month. The other top American just shut his off, at least you are still letting the thing run!

Right, thanks. I guess I needed to let it trade unretarded to have a chance this year with the crazy results we are seeing in the first month. Oh well. Also, I do not trade this on a live account, these parameters do not backtest well outside of this year. Again, just lucky.

Thanks for the link Drew. That stuff is way over my head though! Do you trade this EA on a live account?
