Interview with Rich (Roman Zamozhniy)

We had an interview with the Winner of the Automated Trading Championship 2006 Roman Zamozhniy, known under the nickname Rich. Regardless his winning in the last-year Championship, Roman completely redesigned his trading strategy. Roman is not afraid of the competition. He feels he fights against the market, and not against other Participants

Hello Roman. We are glad that you are going to participate in the Automated Trading Championship 2007. Tell us, please, what Expert Advisor you prepare for this present Championship?
I had to revise my trading strategy seriously after the last-year Championship. This year, only the money-management strategy remains the same as that in the last-year Expert Advisor. The entry-exit principle itself was changed significantly: I had to refuse using indicators utilizing any averaging. Having changed for a larger timeframe (M1 for H1) and for another symbol (USDCHF), I still increased the amount of trades significantly and narrowed the limits of setting stop levels. Thus I managed to smooth the balance curve and to reduce loses. Having used in real trading the same Expert Adviser and with lower risks, I think, I have chosen the right strategy.

And what are the results of this strategy on your real account?
On the average, it is 10% per month. But the deposit is small, risky, that is why even money-management doesn’t help much. And don’t forget that in reality an Expert Advisor trades without restrictions set by the Championship Rules.

You trade using this Expert Advisor on a real account, still with smaller risks. Will you increase the risk level for the Championship.
Yes, because I want to win.

This year Championship will gather more Participants, and the fight for top places will be much more severe. Did you take this into account when developing a new Expert Advisor?
No, because we fight against the market, and not against each other.

In the last year Championship, your Expert Advisor increased its deposit by 250%. This year – do you expect the same profit or larger? How are you going to achieve this?
I expect a higher profit. As I have said before, I will try to achieve this by a complete change of the entry-exit strategy.

Ok, Roman, now let’s talk about indicators. Last year you considered the indicator MACD the best. Now you have changed your mind. Could you please tell us more about this?
To a large extent, the last-year winning was the matter of chance. So it is natural that one has constantly to search for new strategies. During the search in various strategies based on very different indicators, those calculated on averaging of previous periods’ values were sifted. Though, I don’t insist on using only indicators without averaging in future.

What is the operation principle of the indicator(s) used in the Expert Advisor, which we will see in this Championship?
Unfortunately, this is confidential since it is most probable that I will offer it for sale. And, you know, a free-for-all product will never be sold. Well, humorously speaking, the principle is as follows: buy cheap – sell dear, reinvest profits. That’s all.

In developing your Expert Advisors, did you try to use a strategy or separate elements of Expert Advisors from the last-year Championship?
No, I didn’t. You can’t win the market using others’ hands or brains. All by myself.

Did you use for developing your own Expert Advisors the data published on the website of Automated Trading Championship 2006?
Yes, I did partly. For I fully revised the list of indicators underlying my strategy, not the entire information from the website was used. MQL4.Community articles and forum seemed to be more helpful.

What happened to your Expert Advisor that had won the last-year Championship?
Fate dealt the Winner EA short. It is dead. The existing Expert Advisor can be called a distant cousin of that EA. All it has from that Expert Advisor is money management.

Have you ever been offered to sell it??
Yes, I have, but I scruple to do it. As I said before, it won by chance. Cheating buyers is just spotting one’s reputation.

If it is not a secret, how did you invest your prize money?
I opened a real account, bought a powerful computer and a flat. I also had a lovely New Year celebration.

You consider luck to play a huge role in trading. Do you expect to have the same luck this year?
Hmm. I have not negotiated with Ms Luck yet. We shall see what we shall see.

What would you wish the future Participants of the Championship – your colleagues?
Well, what should I wish my colleagues but the Luck!

Thank, Roman! We wish you lots of luck in the forthcoming competition.

Unfortunately, the list of symbols will be reduced from 23 to 12 on technical grounds. Now, this list is absolutely the same as that of the Automated Trading Championship 2006.
