ODL Securities Limited (ODLS) was originally founded in 1994 as Options Direct (Europe) Ltd in response to a movement away from the “open outcry” system of trading on the LIFFE derivative products market. The Company believed that the future for trading financial instruments would be screen based and the use of technology would be a major factor in the development of the financial markets.

The Company obtained its trading licence at the end of 1994 and commenced trading early in 1995. Initially it specialised in derivatives and equities but recently has seen significant growth in foreign exchange, equity CFDs, Corporate and Government bond trading and other over-the-counter (OTC) products. ODLS has a Corporate Finance department that specialises in the resource and mining sectors. Its principal activities are raising funds in the initial stages of financing through private placements and the IPO market.

In January 2007 ODLS bought bestconnect, the leading UK retail service provider (RSP) electronic dealing service, from investment bank Dresdner Kleinwort. The acquisition of bestconnect meant ODLS became the UK’s second largest RSP and strengthened the Company’s offering in equities in particular. ODL clients are able to access and benefit from the deal-at-quote and limit order capability of the bestconnect platform as well as a broader product range and service offering.
