Championship Report: Fifth Week (30 October - 6 November)

Five of twelve weeks of the Automated Trading Championship 2006 have already passed. Risky Expert Advisors are gradually leaving the first places. More cautious, reliable experts replace them.

This week was marked by the close contest between two leaders - Hendrick (Harry Brinkhuis) and Vdiddi38 (Vince Wells). As of the moment, Hendrick is winning: his Phoenix has brought over 23 thousand dollars to him. Vince's result is just two thousand below - and he takes the second place according to the data of the Automated Trading Championship 2006. By the example of these two Participants' competition, one can see that it is not enough just to gain a large profit. It is also very important not to lose it.

Our congratulations to Harry and Vince with their impressive results! Let us go to the third place now. Luis Damiani (ldamiani) from Brazil has taken the third place for the third time. Three seems to be the lucky number for Luis. By the end of the week, equity of his Expert Advisor, Gumasa, have made 19 312 dollars, over 8 and a half thousand dollars being in open positions. This state of the expert is anything but stable. However, we hope Luis's expert will manage to close positions and nail down his success!

Expert named Aver developed by Alexander from Russia is nearer and yet nearer to the Top Three. It made its third trade this week. Like two preceding ones, this trade turned to be profitable and added 2 950 dollars more to Alexander's money-box. This allowed Alexander to take the fourth place and become the closest competitor of Luis Damiani.

The best known and most discussed Championship Participant, Sashken, got to just 6th place with his 11 thousand of losses in open position. Alexander's total equity reduced from 29 thousand dollars to 17. Sashken can only close the position by TakeProfit. So be it!

Mario Jean (maje), a Participant from Canada has returned to the eight place after a number of losing trades. He was in the Top Three the first week. Now his expert will have to work hard to get there again. And for the time being, let us congratulate Mario to his 5 thousand dollars of profit gained this week!

Some Participants of the Top Ten acted just brilliantly. But some of their colleagues were not that successful. As a result, the total equity of the Top Ten has not changed as compared to the previous week. It should be reminded that equity of the previous week did not change either. It seems to become a system and we will not see impressive profits like those of the first week again.

General Statistics of the First 4 Weeks

Almost a month has passed since the competition started. Now we have some interesting statistics concerning Expert Advisors that participate in the Championship. Statistical data about the Expert Advisors' average equity, as well as amounts of profitable and losing experts are given in this report.

Interview with Alexander Egorov (Aver)

While writing expert advisors, I knew from practice that trailing stop rarely pays off, one just loses one's profits. Though, it can be related to my experts, not to the real trading. I tried to use trailing stops instead of strictly set profit. It did not pay off.
