The Championship Report: First Week Results (2 – 9 October)

So, the first of twelve Championship weeks has gone. It has brought a couple of surprises. First, the leader of the Championship is a Russian developer. Second, his deposit has become more than twice as large as at the beginning. Having taken the first place, Alexander Ovchinnikov yielded to none. The second, third, and all succeeding places changed their owners, but the first place did not.

The Championship Leader’s expert – Sashken – invited many questions. The matter is that it can close a position only be TakeProfit, the StopLoss order is not used at all. Alexander himself explains this as follows: “I agree that stops must be placed. I could place a StopLoss for my expert at 400 to 500 points. I think there is not a great difference”.

Besides, it was an error found in his expert advisor that does not close positions independently. But it obviously did not prevent the expert of Sashken from taking the first place subsequent to the results of the first Championship week. Alexander finds this error to be even to the good.

The second place was taken by Harry Brinkhuis (Hendrick Stam), a developer from the Netherlands. His expert Phoenix_4 made 6 trades within this week, all positive. It increased the initial deposit by over 8000 dollars through gradual increasing of the lot sizes. Excellent result!

The third place was taken by Mario Jean (‘maje’) from Canada. His expert advisor named MajBandsRW and built on basis of Bollinger Bands and RSI, earned over six thousand dollars within this first week. At that, only four positive trades were made. This is impressive. Crack on, Mario!

The most important about the above three experts is that no open position has been negative. Experts “feel” rather good how to make profitable trades. All three leading Participants gave one more surprise: They did not protect codes of their expert advisors in any way. Everybody can download and analyze their codes.

The above top ten Participants are very strong. Their experts have scored the total of about 60 thousand dollars within the first five trading days. Nearly a half of this amount was earned by experts of Alexander Ovchinnikov, Harry Brinkhuis and Mario Jean. We hope the coming week will bring us even more pleasant surprises!

Interview with Alexander Ovchinnikov, the current Championship Leader

I agree that stops must be placed. I just could place a StopLoss for my expert at 400 to 500 points. I think there is not a great difference, in terms of historical data of 2006. It is true, the expert does not close positions by itself. I did not even notice that during testing as I only watched profit.

Interview with Chayutra Sriboonruang (vixenme)

No, i'm not afraid of those lost positions much because i chose USDJPY that always swing up-down. Even it intend to go up but it will come down a bit anyway. Then i believe that i still can get the profit. And also by the concept of multilotscalper this can ensure that the winning possibility is bigger... in my opinion.

Coming back to backtesting I also think that there must be something wrong with it.
I performed a simple test after many days spent trying to figure out the difference beetween backtests and live results of my EA
- I added logging of all indicators and quotes every tick.

Then I compared the log of live and then on the same data made the same log of backtest.
I compared the data - the quotes at the same time (seconds) were the same, some of indicators were the same, some similar (5% difference) but some were totally different (stochastic oscillator - in one case 20% in other 80% !).
I'm have no idea what could else influence the test apart from bugs in backtesting module.

I can perform the same test and send results to metaquotes - no problem.

My EA didn't place a single order since 04.10.2006 .
I guess there's something wrong because earlier it placed around 3-4 a day
Is it working? There were problems with data center (ping failed etc). Can this influence EA in longer term?

Can you add a star or something to the participant who is sharing his code? I would like to read as much source codes as I can but I don't want to go through all the profiles to search for them

Yes, you are right. He sent us source codes, but didnt allow us to publish it. Sorry.

We will try to take an interview with Mario, in order to allow him to speak about his Expert himself.
