Report: The Championship Started

The Automated Trading Championship 2006 started two days ago. A total of 258 Expert Advisors are now competing for first place. Unfortunately, not everything went like clockwork.

  • Once the Championship had started, some traders asked: "Why was not I registered?" The reason was some fields were not completed at registration, although they all had to be filled out. Some questions arose concerning identification documents. Some countries do not require internal passports, therefore some participants did not know what to specify in the corresponding fields at registration. This question was answered several times on our forum: You could use your driving license instead of a passport or any other document that identifies you in your country. There were many rejections due to multiple registrations from the same IP address, "cousinly" and "friendly" registrations, as well as the usage of anonymous proxy servers.
  • The Participants' Expert Advisors were launched on the 30th September; the logs of terminals and experts had been cleaned by the 1st October. Therefore, no records about the loading and initialization of experts are in the published logs. There is nothing to worry about here - all experts were launched properly.
  • Unfortunately, the full history of charts was not downloaded to all terminals. This was rectified by the evening of the 1st October. We apologize for this bug.
  • The Data Center and Trade Server have been reconfigured several times since the Championship's start. Due to this there are records like "ping failed" in the logs of the client terminal. The Participants should not worry about this - this is a standard report.
  • Some Experts generated too many logs. We decided not to publish their logs nor disqualify the experts yet. However, if the hard disk becomes overloaded by these logs it will disturb other experts working. The former Experts will be disqualified.
  • We detected Two Participants whose experts took almost 100% of the CP resources. If an investigation proves that it is an infinite loop, the Jury will decide on whether to disqualify these Participants.
  • Subsequently due to the result of one-days work, we decided to modify a number of web services in order not to overload the Championship Website.

Automated Trading Championship 2006 Has Begun

Both Participants and ourselves worked hard during these two months. Since now, nothing will depend on us or on expert developers, everything will be done automatically. We have just to watch the development of the Championship.

Interview with Alexander Ovchinnikov, the current Championship Leader

I agree that stops must be placed. I just could place a StopLoss for my expert at 400 to 500 points. I think there is not a great difference, in terms of historical data of 2006. It is true, the expert does not close positions by itself. I did not even notice that during testing as I only watched profit.

I guess ther's something wrong with the amount of net profit. On my account (ttauzo) in account history there are trades of amount 900 so the equity should be 10900 but the equity is 10 756!
What happened?

The history doesn't look like it shows the swap cost. I suspect your profit has been eroded by the interest rate differential

You mentioned EA that generates many logs..how many logs did these EA's generate? What is an acceptable limit to logs generated by an EA?

Also, you mentioned some “cousinly” and “friendly” registrations, I noticed that two participants in the top 25 right now are from the same country and exactly the same balance. So they are obviously using the exact same EA. What do you consider as a “cousinly” or “friendly” registration?

As one of the NZ contestants in question, can confirm I've no idea who the other contestant is and have never met the other contestant. The NZ connection is a coincidence. My EA opened a long 5 lot position on the EURUSD as soon as the competition started. I'm surprised there aren't more EA's with the same balance. As the 1st trade of the EA hasn't even close out it's a bit early to declare the EA's are the same, or that they deserve to be in the top 10 for that matter. The difference will become apparent.

Apart from the insinuation of cheating the rules probably the most insulting bit of the above post is to suggest I'd be stupid enough post the exact same EA with multiple entries. That would defeat the purpose of mulitple entries.

If my expert (green signed) is taking CPU resources, please disable sound options of the expert. This happens when expert can not access sound device, if "PlaySound" included in the code. (I can say this is a bug of MT4 terminal, if sound card is not accessable, (terminal+expert) takes %100 CPU resources, this is an hardware issue, not an infinite loop.)

(Meanwhile it is too early to rank the experts if a decision will be based on this. )

Thanks.

Two Participants were detected whose experts take almost 100% of the CP resources. If the investigation proves that it is an infinite loop, the Jury will decide on whether to disqualify these Participants.

Is my EA one of them? This couldn't be true! because I'm testing my EA for not less than 6 months till now!

For example: 100 000 lines a day is too much, 50 000 as well.

Most of friendly registration has been rejected. Accounts from New Zealand were registered separately, but probably used the same trading idea.

“ping failed” is a kind of bad log, which maybe bring MT bad reputation.
"Ping failed" - just a network error when we restarted our servers. It is the Open Championship and you see all detailed messages.

I am already out, don't know why, my EA does nothing on your server while the same code works fine at home.
