Comments Automated Trading Championship 2006

Thank you one and all for your comments, it is interesting to receive so many opinions about ones work.

I am glad some have appeared to appreciate the light hearted spirit I wrote the code in. Although I suspect if you find my code humorous it might well be a sign that you have spent to much of your life staring at a little green line squiggle its way across your screen:).

I agree with most of what has been said here, even when the comments are contradicting each other, I agree with both sides of the arguement:). You can argue it is subverting the spirit of the contest, particularly with its nonsymetric preference for long over short. On the other hand you can argue it is no different from any other EA, the analysis of the market behaviour must come from the human, then you attempt to make profit from these ideas by summarizing them in the mathematics of the EA. By layering in more and more complexity into the EA it does not start thinking, it just summarizes a more complex idea.

In theory it is possible for any EA to lose every trade, just as almost any EA can in theory win every trade. Every EA is a bet on future market conditions. This is my view. I like to keep it in mind when I write my EAs.

Hi, Alexandre!

First, let me thank you for sharing your EA with us. It is really good, I really like it. I hope you will catch few more good trades before end of contest. Many EA's here are built for "all or none". They are risking a lot in hope to win. Yours is different. Downside is limited. You don't have S/L set at 50 times T/P So, your EA is more often stopped out at a small loss or break even. But I can see it making cosistent money and that's what count! So good luck, I wish you win!

Btw, would you mind (or anyone else) post few facts about this EA in English language. I will forward test it and I would love to hear more about it, but unfortunatelly I don't know Russian (or Belarus) language.

When it performs better in trending or nontrending conditions... and things like that. Does it need to be reoptimize every so often? How it performs on other pairs/time frames. I know, a lot of this I can check with backtesting and I will but if some of this informations was already posted here I would love to hear about it.

One more thing. Is it possible, to set EA to trade 0.1 lots? Is this something that everyone can do it, or only you can? (didn't see this option in EA settings)

Anyway, good luck and hope you win and of course, thank you again!

P.s. 'bela' in Belarus stand for 'white', right? Why?

LOL! I'm not jealous. I'm just telling my point of view. Mechanical trading should be free from human intervention. If I one could determin a trend manually, why not take a position and hold on to it, rather then running this EA?
I'm not posting my comments to stir up an argument. I just feel, there are many other better EAs in this competition that have been out foxed my Zonker. (note: out foxed by Zonker, not his EA).
End of discussion.

Zonker best of luck :).

Thanks for the well wishes. As I'm sure you also understand, the trading system aims at avoiding loss trades completely, but it also likes to make life interesting. This time it got confused by the weekend transition, and I learnt something more about the reality of trading. I think it was called The Gap on a forum. In any case, as we mention on our web page, we are not ready to sell the EA yet, but will offer subscription to its signals.

Losses happen, no one can avoid them completely. No EA can have 100% all profitable trades, "Holy Grail" EA because every EA has its own weakness. I think stable EAs like Surfer can be very profitable in the long run if the market continues with the same price behavior as it did in the previous months of 2006.

The gaol is to win, thats all that matters. Ok if you can determine the MAJOR trend MANUAL and then write your EA to trade only that TREND i do not see anything wrong with it so long as it makes money.

Wrong, " Within 12 weeks of your “Expert” independently trading, you could prove your expert is the best, the most profitable! " That is how this championship was annouced. It seems like a small difference, but it is one. Through a test in 12 weeks we will never find out, who has created the best EA.

Aha, do you know that the next 12 month will not be EUR bullish? :-)

bullish wrote: Personally I dont even consider his EA an EA. He predicted that the EURO will go up, it wasn't just him who predicted this, almost everyone was predicting that. Zonker was smart enough to build his EA around this supposition. But is his EA any good, I dont think so.

Zonker, no offence just my view. But again, you've out foxed many, and Kudos to you my friend :).

You are just jealous!

BuY EUROS NOW!!!, BUY MORE!!!
